Thriving forest landscapes
We are in the midst of an ecological crisis
Rising Carbon
Increasing carbon concentrations in the atmosphere continue to drive damaging climate change; emissions reductions alone are not enough to achieve net zero emissions.
Declining Biodiversity
Woodland habitat continues to be lost at a rapid rate, wild species are being made extinct and population abundances are in decline; all this negatively affects climate, agriculture, water supply and the economy.
Increasing Flood Risk
Climate change, land use patterns and property development are combining to significantly increase risk of floods affecting agricultural production, business and people’s homes.
Trees can help us
Biodiversity: they significantly increase wildlife habitat and thus biodiversity (one English oak can support over 280 species)
Climate: they are highly effective at capturing and storing atmospheric carbon, helping to mitigate climate change
Water: they are very effective ‘water utilities’, cleaning, storing and regulating water supply, and combatting flood risk
We will lose the opportunity to change our outcome unless we Take Action fast
We want to rapidly scale up and urgently accelerate the creation of new and permanent natural woodland across the UK for the benefit of future generations in order to deliver benefits across three core strategic objectives of (1) Capturing carbon (2) Increasing biodiversity (3) Mitigating flood risk.
